KVPY (Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana)

KVPY ( English: Young Scientist Incentive Plan) is a scholarship program started by the Department of Science and Technology (DST) and Government of India in 1999 to encourage talented and motivated students to pursue carrier is science research. DST has entrusted the overall responsibilities for organizing and running the KVPY program to the Indian institute of Science.

Eligibility to write KVPY

The KVPY fellowship are given to Indian nationals to study in India. Students pursue /pursuing under graduate program under distance education scheme of any university are not eligibility to apply.

Steam SA : Students enrolled in XI ( science subject) during the academic year 2020-21 and having a minimum of 75% for General category and 65% for SC/ST/PWD marks in Mathematics and Science subjects in 10th in board exam are eligible for the KVPY exam. The students selected under this stream will be activated only if they join an undergraduate courses in Basic Science after having secured a minimum of 60% for general category and 50% for SC/ST/PWD marks in science subject in board examination.

Stream SX : During academic year 2020-21 in 12th grade students and those who wish to purse the undergraduate program in basic science should have 75% for general and 65% for SZ/ST/PWD students in Mathematics and science subjects in the year of 2018-19. However, they are eligible to all only if they score 60%(50% for SC/ST/PWD) marks in mathematics and science in XII during 2020-2021. The requirements to get admission for in their 2nd year of study in Cambridge examination board which is in the year of 2020-21 are eligible if they having 75%(65% for SC/ST/PWD) in mathematics and science in the Xth and 60% and 50% for XII respectively.

Stream SB : Students from academic year 2020-21 should secure a minimum of 60% in general category students and 50% for SZ/ST/PWD in XII board examination.

When in KVPY 2021

Candidates who meeting the eligibility criteria for various stream will attend the exam on Sunday, 31st January 2021. Admit card will be available from the website from the second week of January 2021. Online application starts from 6th September 2020and ends on 5th October 2020.

Exam Pattern

It is an online exam in four sections conducted by Indian Institute of Science(IISc), Bangalore.

SA Stream : It is held on 9.30 am to 12.30pm(3hrs). Total number of question is 80 including part I has 60 questions and Part II has 20 questions. In part I, correct answers have 1 marks and 0.25 for every wrong answers. For Part II has 2 marks awarded for correct answers and 0.5 for incorrect answer. Total marks for SA is 100.

SB/SX Stream : This is held from 2 pm to 5 pm(3hrs). There are 80 questions with Part I(80) and Part II(40), students need to attend any 80 questions with a total of 160 marks. Students must attempt any 3 sections from part I(20*3=60 marks ) and any 2 sections from part II(20*2=40). Marking system is same as SA stream.
